MK asks Apple to remove ‘3rd intifada’ iPad application
Yuli Edelstein in letter to Steve Jobs: “Application calls for uprising against Israel, iPad apps should not be instrument for incitement to violence.”
MK Yuli Edelstein, Minister of Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs on Tuesday wrote a letter to Apple CEO Steve Jobs asking him to remove an iPad application calling for a “third intifada”.
The application, which is also compatible with the iPhone, calls on Muslims world-wide to rise up violently against Israel.
In his letter to Jobs, MK Edelstein wrote, “I believe APPLE, as a pioneering and progressive company, places the values of liberty, freedom of expression and creativity as a guiding light. Also, as a leader in its area, I am convinced that you are aware of this type of application’s ability to unite many toward an objective that could be disastrous.”
He continued, “I therefore turn to you with the request to instruct the immediate removal of the application in question and thus continue the tradition of “Apple” applications dedicated to purely entertainment and informative purposes and not serve as a instrument for incitement to violence.”
The same group which created this iPad application created a Facebook group in March with the same name and stated purpose.
MK Edelstein similarly requested that Facebook remove that group because of its stated intent to incite violence against the State of Israel. Facebook promptly removed the group.
