brought to you by your reliance on fossil fuels

Interesting. The Leopard 2 is a good tank, though slower than the M1A2. It is easier on the fuel, though.

Smells like they’re trying to curb their reliance on US defense goodies. It’ll be interesting to see if there are any large european aircraft contracts next.

This is fucking stupid. Can anyone give a single reason why we, the US, would not have been given this economic boost, since we don’t make teacups anymore?

We did save the Saudis from Iraq once upon a time after all. Let the Germans do it next time, and there will be a next time.///

On the other hand, it may not say as much about Saudi or Germany as about our dysfunctional government; more interested in elections than economic benefits.

Very nasty piece of hardware. I had friends on the armor side of the house in the cavalry who said they could never beat the Germans in tank gunnery. The Leopard II and the French LeClerc are a couple of tanks I would really not want to be on the wrong side of.

Indeed not. Both are nasty, though the Leopard’s retaining a loader (the LeClerc has an auto-loader) gives it an edge in reload time and a extra man to main a topside MG.

And a military-industrial complex. Germany is the world’s 3rd biggest arms seller after the USA and Russia (both of whom together make up more than half of the world’s arms trades). See [Link: www.sipri.org…]
