Egyptian prime minister fires officers accused of killing protesters
Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf ordered the termination Saturday of all officers accused of killing protesters.
The move is meant to mollify demonstrators, angered at the slow pace of change since President Hosni Mubarak resigned on February 11 after protests. In recent days, anti-government protests have raged, sometimes devolving into clashes.
On Friday, tens of thousands of Egyptians converged in Cairo’s iconic Tahrir Square, the center of the revolution that toppled Mubarak. On July 2, armed men attacked protesters at the square.
