The use of an incendiary, but otherwise unimportant, example to whip up anger against the so-called establishment classes

LOL. This pseudo-intellectual drivel contains more projection than all the IMAX theaters in America.

So it's an article about demagogery that applies aspects of demagogery in it's structure?

Demagogception.

Victor David Hanson is a demagogue, though.

How does he deal with that?

And, as usual, he gets his facts wrong.

He must appreciate that the vast majority of doctors, in this age of promiscuous malpractice suits, do not insist on dangerous and unnecessary surgeries to gouge the patient.

Atul Gawande, who took the amazing step of actual research (note that, Hanson) found that there are places where doctors do indeed have a culture that includes unnecessary procedures.

What Obama is pointing out is about the compensation schemes, and how they affect the delivery of care. It's a very important point about how we approach health care in this country-- we need to move from a fee-for-procedure model, which causes this sort of economic distortion, to a model that prizes primary care more. We're becoming overspecialized.

So Hanson takes this legitimate point and then... demagogues with it. While sticking his nose in the air and pretending he's lambasting demagogues.

I'm uncertain if he lacks shame or self-awareness.
