FAA Partial Shutdown Due to GOP Anti-Union Bias
I wish I could at least feign surprise. But I am way past that.
Though Senate Democrats were unhappy with the 13 rural airports being offered up for the cuts — none of Michigan’s EAS-backed airports was on the list — they were also opposed to language attached to the bill by House Republicans that would have made it more difficult for railroad and airline workers to unionize.
Under the GOP-backed proposal, all votes not cast in a unionizing election would count as “no” votes. Currently, National Mediation Board rules dictate only cast votes are counted one way or another.
Abstentions or absences are simply counted as votes against unionization. By the way, I do not generally assume an unqualified “Pro-Union” stance. I do, however, assume an unqualified “In-a-democracy-we-don’t-count-the-votes-like-Stalinist-Thugs” stance. Ah, the GOP version of democracy - Let Freedom Ring!
