REHM: So that would then include the IUD [intra-uterine device]. What about the birth control pill?

REHM: So you’re saying that the birth control pill could be considered as taking the life of a human being?

HOYE: I’m saying that once the egg and the oocyte come together and you have that single-celled embryo, at that point you have human life, you’ve got a human being and we’re taking the life of a human being with some forms of birth control and if birth control falls into that category, yes I am.

As I said in another thread this could be problematic for my wife and I. She takes BC as a treatment course for a medical condition...and we live in MS.

Oh, I'm sure that the pill will be OK for a medical condition, as long as you don't go introducing any sperm into the zone. The posse will be out there waiting to make sure you.... Oh, never mind. You'll just have to apply for a permit and promise various humiliating things.

Or maybe not, since you are male and only women are supposed to be humiliated here.

If you don't ovulate, how does the Pill prevent an fertilized egg from becoming embedded in the uterine wall?

It's pretty common for people to be confused about how birth control pills work. Here’s what it boils down to: birth control pills are made of hormones. Hormones are chemicals made in our bodies. They control how different parts of our bodies work.

Some birth control pills contain two hormones — estrogen and progestin. These are called combination pills. Some are progestin-only pills. Most women on the pill take combination pills.

The hormones in the pill work by keeping a woman’s ovaries from releasing eggs — ovulation. Pregnancy cannot happen if there is no egg to join with sperm. The hormones in the pill also prevent pregnancy by thickening a woman’s cervical mucus. The mucus blocks sperm and keeps it from joining with an egg.

The hormones also thin the lining of the uterus. In theory, this could prevent pregnancy by keeping a fertilized egg from attaching to the uterus.

Anyone trying to prevent the sale and distribution of The Pill will find themselves in court for a long, long time.
