Diane Sawyer special to feature Gabrielle Giffords

U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords looks cheerful and alert in a promotional video for an upcoming interview with Diane Sawyer, which is scheduled to air Nov. 14.
In the footage released by ABC, the 41-year-old congresswoman is with her husband, retired astronaut Mark Kelly, and appears to be speaking. [could they have worded that any more weirdly?]
Giffords’ chief of staff Pia Carusone on Thursday said it’s “not a full-length interview.”
The congresswoman has not spoken publicly since she was shot through the left side of her brain during an assassination attempt Jan. 8 in Tucson. The injury affected movement on the right side of her body, as well as her speech.

A hardcover memoir penned by Giffords, Kelly and Wall Street Journal columnist Jeffrey Zaslow is set to be released Nov. 15, the day after the interview with Sawyer airs on ABC.
“Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope” is published by Scribner, which is an imprint of Simon & Schuster. Kelly, 47, narrates all but the final chapter of an audio version of the book, also set to be released Nov. 15. Giffords was recorded reading the final chapter, her office has confirmed.
