Randall Terry To Run Abortion Ads During Super Bowl?
Randall Terry is back in the news. Apparently he’s running for president. He’s also hoping to run a bunch of anti-abortion ads during the Super Bowl. Those two things aren’t occurring by coincidence.
Running for president gives the candidate some privileges and a bully pulpit that one doesn’t necessarily deserve, and in Terry’s case, he’s exploiting a provision that requires local TV stations to air ads of candidates in time slots that occur within a 45-day window of the state party’s primary election.
There’s a couple of caveats to the headline I wrote above. Above all, Terry’s plan hinges on whether he can find the money to make it happen. Then, there’s the matter that it only happen in up to 40 major markets nationally where the Super Bowl occurs within a 45-day window of a state party’s primary election. So, if the primary occurs within 45 days of the Super Bowl occurring February 5, 2012, the media outlets will have to allow it.
I have to think that he’s using the potential run for president as a platform to force media outlets to run his anti-abortion ads.
