Mitt files an extension for his 2011 Tax Return

What other purpose besides concealing the truth from voters could Mitt Romney possibly have for wanting to file his taxes late? Perhaps we are supposed to think Mitt and Ann are still collecting W2 forms and bank statements to put them all in a shoebox to hand over to their accountant. As for the “We’ll get er done before the election” explanation, call me a cynic.

If Mitt can’t handle his own personal finances in a timely manner, why should we elect him to take the reins over the entire country’s finances?

This is very common in the private equity/hedge fund world.
Often times, the complex tax structures mean that all the necessary filing docs (K1-s forms) for all the shell partnerships are not ready in time for the mid April timeline.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Romney does’t have enough info from Bain to file at this point.

Exactly. It’s not appropriate to infer much from this. If anything, Mitt would want to file as soon as possible in order to get the inevitable attacks from the Donks out of the way. But his accountants have to deal with some complicated issues the Obamas do not face, and the fact that he has asked for an extension, as is his right, does not mean he is being dishonest.
