US Islamophobe Allen West Fears ‘Cultural Suicide’
It’s sad when a representative like Allen West doesn’t understand his own culure - and this is the part that most Islamophobes and John Birch Society members also fail to grasp. “Western Culture” is all consuming, enticing, irresistibly sexy, and indefatigable. Extremists can’t stop it, and Rep. West can’t freeze it into a 1950’s mold either because Western Culture has never been a static rock, but has always been a branching, growing tree.
Western culture is all of the above because it’s open, free, and dynamic, making it ultimately indestructable. Westerners steal the best bits of culture from everywhere and make it their own - it all started way back when Rome “borrowed” everything decent that the Greeks had.
Like psychic vampires we are going to suck the lifeblood from any new culture we meet and make it our own. When it comes to culture the US motto should be “Take the best, throw the rest.”
That’s why we call our daughters “princess” even though we live in a democratic republic, that’s why we have thousand mile smorgasboards of great cuisine melded into our cookbooks, that’s why our kids bash pinatas at birthday parties where none of the attendees speak Spanish, that’s why we practice yoga, that’s why a lot of things if you just stop and think for a minute about what really originated here.
So Representative Allen you can stuff your overblown phobias about commies and muslims, we aren’t that stupidly paranoid anymore.
It’s a good thing that the FBI is vetting their manuals to remove the parts where our own stripes of bigots and fundamentalists inserted lies and exaggerations about a whole religion and peoples. You can’t defeat an enemy if you can’t exactly identify them. The enemy isn’t Muslims or Islamic people, it is specific groups with specific extremist practices and doctrines. All of those doctrines, most of the people, and all of the groups can very specifically be named.
Rep. Allen West warned Monday that reports of the FBI’s training manual being edited to scrap portions considered offensive to the Muslim community signaled an increasingly “one-way street” level of tolerance that could lead to “cultural suicide.”
“We have to understand when tolerance becomes a one-way street, it will lead to cultural suicide and we should not allow the Muslim Brotherhood-associated groups to be influencing our national security strategy,” the Florida Republican said on “Fox & Friends.”
West noted that the report of Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hassan — who has been accused of the fatal shooting spree at Fort Hood, Texas, that killed 13 and wounded dozens more — makes no reference to Islamic Jihadism or Muslim extremism, and also fails to mention the suspect’s alleged association with Al Qaeda leader Anwar al-Awlaki.
