There is a lot more to this story than the political mudslinging. From the same Globe story:

According to both Harvard officials and federal guidelines, those statistics are almost always based on the way employees describe themselves.

Further:

The documents suggest for the first time that either Warren or a Harvard administrator classified her repeatedly as Native American in papers prepared for the government in a way that apparently did not adhere to federal diversity guidelines. They raise further questions about Warren’s statements that she was unaware Harvard was promoting her as Native American.

Repeatedly making false claims which are then included in federal legal filings is a serious allegation. The broader question of personal motivation and institutional context will need to be asked - and answered - as well. When you make certain claims in the interest of self-advancement, it is fair to expect scrutiny of these claims, especially if you choose to enter a political arena. Warren is a law school professor. She is well aware that “family lore” is not a sufficient basis for a federal filing of diversity information. Think of it this way: by claiming Warren as a minority faculty member, multiple parties were harmed. The universe of qualified true minorities, who might otherwise be tapped for a position, along with Harvard’s student body, who could have had the views and experiences of a real minority added to their education.

From a Politico article on the same story:

According to the Harvard law professor, she is 1/32nd Native American, and her campaign has maintained that Warren never leveraged her ethnic status to gain professional advantages.

These parties were harmed only if her claim to be part Native American is baseless. One shouldn’t jump to conclusions before the facts are clear.

All the facts are in. They don’t have to find documents that prove she does have the native ancestry. The only way to clear this up is for her to provide evidence that she does have native ancestry. Failing to provide any actual evidence, the facts are clear enough.

The only fact is that no one has provided any evidence to back up her claim.
