Face to face with the new reality…
It’s not my experience, it’s my brother’s. He’s my baby brother, and he’s still in school. He was talking to a homeschooled girl who had “graduated” at 16, and by 20 would have her BSN. (Nursing degree, bachelor’s level).
He thinks this is great. He’s from a family of educated women. (Well, and men, but that doesn’t enter into this story.) His mother (and mine, check my icon) took woodshop in 1964, and has a garage full of power tools. His sisters went to college and are, um, opinionated. (I guess that’s a full disclosure moment, eh?)
He asks her what she’s going to do after that. Well, she says, hopefully the right man will come along, and then she’ll do whatever he tells her to do.
What? He wasn’t sure he heard that right.
Yes, she is serious. You do whatever your husband tells you to do.
Another conversation with her revealed that she hates tattoos. She would never get a tattoo. Her parents would kill her.
Well, unless her husband told her to get one.
What would her parents think then?
Oh, they’d be okay with it, because her husband had told her to.
My brother is floored. He didn’t know this was out there.
I explained to him all the ways that I think it is wrong and dysfunctional and cruel to both husband and wife. As I said, he has opinionated sisters.
