Antidoping Officials Pursued Armstrong for Years, Broke Own Protocols
Of course we can disagree over whether Lance doped or not. What we can all likely agree on is he has a right to strict due process & protocol usage.
As Lance Armstrong prepared to make a cycling comeback at the 2009 Tour de France, antidoping scientists who had been pursuing him for a decade got wind of a new kind of blood test. But the Swiss lab that handles Tour drug testing declined to participate, this person said, because the plan, which also targeted other top riders, didn’t follow the drug-testing protocols set forth in the antidoping code that governs the sport.
In his statement, Mr. Armstrong focused on his clean testing record.
“The bottom line is I played by the rules that were put in place by the UCI, WADA and USADA when I raced,” said Mr. Armstrong, who has strongly denied doping.
“The idea that athletes can be convicted today without positive…samples, under the same rules and procedures that apply to athletes with positive tests, perverts the system,” he said.
