Gawd, Preibus is such a weenie.

2 Destro  Mon, Aug 27, 2012 6:21:21am

Reince Preibus squirmed like the worm he is.

When the bulk of the GOP is aligned with the libertarian rooted "Austrian school of economics" Reince calling the President's economic policy "European" is the height of hilarity.

I may not like Matthews sometimes, but it was nice to see him nail Preibus to the wall on this nonsense. A shame the rest of the panel tried to hush him.

These are the tough questions I expect to see hurled at both sides, making them stand their ground.

Most of the Republican base has no idea of what the "Austrian school of economics" is or they pretend they do. Most of the GOP base is focused on issues derived from religious fundamentalism and racism and even concepts like 'smaller govt" to them is coded race/religion speech (small govt so it can't prevent racism or stop you from having religious policies take over like prayer in school or banning abortions).

And it fits into the "Obama is Foreign" narrative.

And it fits into the "Obama is Foreign" narrative.

the American right wing has been attacking Europe for a while now and France after they refused to allow Reagan's overflight to bomb Qaddafi (the origin of the hatred of France by Republicans).

re: #7 Destro

That is not the origin, no. Simple xenophobia is. There aren't any foreign countries they actually like, except as props for a few issues.

I have to hand it to Matthews. He's one of the only members of the "mainstream media" to call those welfare/work ads out for what they are. I also loved that the audience applauded him!

Too bad Preibus is such a smug ahole that he probably didn't even realize he got taken down a notch.

Oh, and Brokaw is absolutely useless. "Both sides do it!" Ugh.

The origin of the French are weak and gutless, etc is I think linked to the wave of anti-French sentiment that gripped the USA regarding their refusal to allow overflights by anti-Qaddafi strike force.

Actually, that one started during WWII: France was easily conquered by Nazi Germany. Nevermind that they fought tooth and nail to win it back, nor that WWI left the French army in a weak spot regarding the advancements that occurred between both WW.

Edit: IIRC.

Indeed, they'll just claim though they're Chicago School(Friedman) influenced but they've been sounding more and more like Von Mises and those kooks.

I have read popular accounts, newspapers, etc. I find no evidence that Americans made fun of the French before the 1980s for losing WW2.

The French lose every war meme was something that came about because France refused fly over rights to the American raid on Qaddafi. I know that's hard to believe but it is the event that caused that "French are cheese eating surrender monkey's meme" to be born.

14 wrenchwench  Mon, Aug 27, 2012 10:08:24am

I don't get it, Teresa. You apparently recognize a race card when you see one, yet you maintain your "Favorite Blogs" list on your website with a "proud member of the League of the South" in the third position. And the only response you've given me to that is that I should "get over it", and you mysteriously commented that I had inspired you to go over the list and update it, which resulted in Larison moving higher on the list.

How do you reconcile supporting a racist and at the same time calling out other racists?

Anyway, I'm updinging this Page because the video on the front page wouldn't play for me.

More bullshit.

Anti-French sentiment in the United States

For starters. Lots of other sources.

And while we're at it, exactly where is the evidence Lance Armstrong was doping, as you claimed?

And we could back to your other bullshit assertions....

LOL

re: #15 researchok

Hi troll, there was no shock jocks back in time until the modern era in the 80s and the shock jock meme took hold when morning talk shows and afternoon drive time radio programs had their shock jocks attack the French who refused to allow Reagan's air raid to punish Qaddafi fly over their airspace. That is my assertion where the SPECIFIC meme took hold in America that the French are military losers - something not found in pop culture as a meme before then.

Americans may have always had problems with the French but their military prowess was not a factor in their insults before the Reagan era invention of them as surrenderers.

And Lance Armstrong had is medals stripped and he surrendered without a fight. He pleaded nolo contendere, maybe the French surrender habit rubbed off on him.

Now, go back under your bridge, troll.

Still with pivot and attack?

You said:

What does that have to do with anything you said? What does that have to do with shock jocks?

Here is what you can't refute: Anti-French sentiment in the United States

The article specifically cites examples of that sentiment going for centuries

The providence is quite clear you lied- or were talking out of your ass.

Also, where is the evidence Armstrong cheated? Please provide a link to a case where is doping was verified by an international dope testing body.

You were busted for bullshit- again.

And all you can do is pivot and attack- and you aren't even very good at that.

Pissant

Why not just man up and back up your statements?

Or is asking for that also 'trolling'?

And what are you- 9 years old and running to the teacher?

re: #20 researchok

I try not to feed the trolls, like you.

I don't feed anybody.

You were busted for lying.

Unless of course, you can provide evidence and back up your statements.
