Teens Need Contraception Prescriptions in Hand, U.S. Doctors Say - SFGate
All U.S. teenagers should be given prescriptions for emergency contraception to keep on hand in case they ever need it, the American Academy of Pediatrics said.
Pediatricians should provide emergency contraception such as Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.’s Plan B One Step or its generic levonorgestrel copy to teenagers in immediate need and provide prescriptions or supply for them to have just in case, the doctors’ group said in an policy statement online today. Condoms in addition to hormonal contraception or an intrauterine device are the best ways for teens to avoid pregnancy, the group said.
