They resigned over the classified version of the report.

Pretty serious for a "made up" scandal.

The bigger news will be a new and improved security protocol.

At least something good will have come out of this tragedy.

As far as a learning curve goes, I think it is far less bloody one than the US invasion of Iraq.

Go ahead and explain what the scandal is, Buck.

Buck, how do you define this as a "scandal"?

Nobody in the Administration ever said mistakes were not made. Clinton actually took the blame. An independent investigation was conducted and specific areas where leadership was inadequate or negligent were identified.

There's no hint of a scandal or cover-up, no attempt to save face. Unfortunately, this is the real, imperfect world of imperfect human beings and screw-ups happen. Screw-ups are not "scandals." If you want to call screw-ups scandals, then I'd say 9/11 was a pretty damn massive "scandal" in which we knew 19-20 terrorists were in the country and Bush's security team FAILED to stop them from killing 3,000 people on U.S. soil.

In case you missed it no one on the wingnut side of this has even been talking about security at the consulate.

What they have been doing is spinning conspiracies about mythical "stand down" orders, armed drones that were not used, AC-130 gunships that didn't exist, President Obama "abandoning" our people, special forces prevented from attacking, and lots of other nonsense. That is the "made up" scandal people here were and still are talking about.

Show me where anyone here ever claimed that security at the consulate was adequate? That it was not was obvious from day one after the attack. That has been discussed here, along with the requests for additional security that were turned down, and the congressional cuts to the state departments security budget.

This entire time the focus should have been on why the security was understaffed for the threat environment. But that wasn't what the Right has been talking about at all and you know it. Instead they have been making up wild and non-factual allegations trying to make this in some way directly connected to the President. Do you really think the President decides on the security staffing for every embassy and consulate around the world?

This study that delivered this report was commissioned by Hillary Clinton voluntarily, this wasn't something anyone "made" her do. The report didn't whitewash the responsibility of the State Department, it came down hard on the people who actually made the decisions. So where is your "scandal," where is your "cover-up?"

The Republicans have blustered about this ad nauseum on the news and the Issa hearings have been going on for months. Where is their report? Where is their assessment of the security and of the people who made the decisions about it? They are just purposefully dragging this out to continue to try to smear the administration, the GOP is doing nothing but grandstanding for political points.

The GOP conduct to date shows them using Benghazi as a platform to hurl defamatory insinuations from instead of being something to actually investigate. To me that is the real Benghazi scandal.
