What this amounts to is teaching creationism and RELIGION in school . Why there is such a problem is beyond me .When I was a kid , the various churches / synogogues / parochial schools woud offer afterschool or mid afternoon classes for public school students , once a week for religious instructions . There were no problems .

That is the system used in German schools, save that right now, the only options available are Lutheran, Catholic or ethics.

But America has the long-standing and vaunted tradition of Sunday school. If they want to teach their beliefs, then they have ample opportunity without any messy discussions about separation of church and state

Oddly enough, this bill is so stealthy that if they actually follow the parts in it about “evidence” and “objective”, creationism/intelligent design would be the first casualty.

All of this right wing BS, including creationism/intelligent design, and also including historical revisionism and abstinence-only sex-ed (the bills’ other clear targets for introducing into the public schools) fails miserably for lack of evidence and is also completely subjective.

The bill’s author much be a crank who thinks his delusions on all subjects are supported by objective evidence.

Over the past few years we can notice how the creationists have morphed into using language that is very deceptive. Ironically the creationists’ efforts now seems to be on the path of the biological phenomenon of “mimicry”.

The creationists are…. evolving.

Randall Gross,

Thanks for telling us about the creationist latest attempt to undermine science. I just alerted Skepchick. Maybe they’ll run with the story as well. It seems as if Christian fundamentalists won’t stop until the completely undermine science education in America, and the rest of the world, just so people will believe a literal reading of Genesis.

Because many fundamentalists Christians feel so threatened by evolution that it seems they will do anything they can that they think will undermine it. Its not just Christians either. There are creationists in just about every major world religion.
