Child Hostage Taker in Alabama is an anti-govt, bunker building survivalist aka GOP Base

The man who ignited a hostage standoff in southern Alabama when he shot a bus driver and took a child into an underground bunker is a ‘survivalist’ who has antigovernment views, an official with the Dale County Sheriff’s Office told Hatewatch this morning.

I wonder if the National Geographic’s Tea Party Paranoia reality show “Doomsday Preppers” will feature and rate this right wing nut job’s survivalist bunker in an upcoming episode?

I like a lot of your posts, but I think it is safe to say that most of the GOP base does not live in a Doomsday Prepper bunker as you seem to suggest.

I don’t see where he said “most”. I do believe that it is a significant subset of the base though.

He didn’t say most of the base or a minority of the base. He said “the base” which means all of the GOP base.

No. I wrote “aka GOP Base”

No “the” was used and no “most” was used. There is an element of jibbing in my posts on this and it is in many ways doing what the right wing does (pictures of African Americans arrested with Obama t-shirts with comments like “Obama voter” by them for example) and using it against them. Also, let us not forget the mother of the Sandy Hook mass murderer was a “prepper” which I assume is the modern term for “survivalist”. I can see why they needed to change the term since “survivalist” got linked to “crazy and most likely racist person living in the woods” back in the 80s and 90s.

Significant or not, this subset certainly does exist, and the GOP does nothing to talk them down. They instead encourage this kind of idiocy, because smart emotionally-balanced people do not vote GOP.

Why is that? This is the sort of lazy caricature you always see on the right when they show a picture of guys in chaps and bondage leather at a Gay Pride event and try to pass that off as the Democratic base.

You are right, you wrote aka and forgot to add the word the. If you say aka GOP base, most people who speak English would add the word the. However, if Russian is your first language, you might leave out the word the.
