A Jewish Deli/restaurant I go to has a large dining room and the walls are ringed with Jewish sayings , some from the famous, the Sages, others just from Ben the owner himself - The largest being :

“They Tried To Kill Us All , They Failed , Let’s Eat “

There are just so many great ones. The haunting beauty of the gaunt girl in bed, the brothers with their arms around each other, the people at the moment of liberation and the magnificent smile of the woman during Passover who looks to be thinking “Yeah we may have to hide now but you ain’t gonna’ stop us from making Matzos Mother F@^%$#”!

I think the best one is the woman with the little toddler who was just rescued from the death train.

I finally was able to get through. I am grateful that I was persistent…

I learned a lot between the story of Rabbi Herschel Schacter (his obituary is here: nytimes.com at the liberation of Buchenwald to the story of the train outside Magdeburg and it makes me just want to quietly reflect. To light a candle and remember all the stories I have learned over time, happy or sad.

Thank you for this posting.

Minor detail. Forgot to mention but this isn’t a rocket…

As captioned there…

This image is of a man in the Jewish Brigade, a segment of the British Army that fought the Germans in Italy in 1944. The rocket says “Hitler’s Gift”.

That’s a naval shell. Or as described in Holocaust Chronicles

A Jewish volunteer in a coastal artillery battery holds a shell on which is inscribed in Hebrew: “A gift for Hitler.” Formed in 1940, these units served as part of the British force in Palestine. As news of the death camps reached Palestine, the desire for revenge grew among Jewish troops. Ultimately, the British agreed to form the Jewish Brigade Group.

Thanks for telling us about this. I had trouble getting the link to work at first as well. It seems to work and than periodically not work for some reason. It probably has nothing to do with you or LGF.

Sometimes clicking the link returns a random server error. The blog is probably getting hammered with more hits than it can normally accommodate.

re: #16 Vicious Babushka

Well maybe that means a lot of people will see it, once they’re able fix the problem.

In 1955 at a young age , my Mom would take my brother and I to the movies . In those days there were no ratings , for there were no “PG ” or X movies or any of that at the theatres . It was standard to have the days newsreels then a few cartoons then the movie itself . Even in ‘55 the newsreels still reverberated WW 2 Stories , and film footage of the death camps . My first exposure to the holocaust was at the age of 6 . I understood what was going on although I did noy know why . Gen. Eisenhower made it proceedure to film all he could of the death camps . His reasoning was that in the future there would be men to deny it ever happened . In my mind , there was never any excuse that Jews would have to offer for being the victims . I find it strange that today Jews must even justify why they have been slaughtered . My mother was in Italy until the end of the war , and fortunately for her [ and later me ] the Italians were not as obedient to their occupiers as some other nations , as to give up their jews . She also was seeing for her first time, in those newsreels, what became of the Jews in Europe .
