Texas State Senator Filibusters Against Abortion Bill
Texas State Senator Wendy Davis began a filibuster in the Texas Legislature against SB-5, a measure which would effectively close down almost every abortion clinic in Texas. Senator Davis would have to speak for 13 hours until midnight in order to run out the clock on the special session.

SB-5 would close all but 5 of Texas’s 42 clinics; some women would have to drive hundreds of miles for an abortion.
Texas has some strict regulations when attempting a filibuster:
From an e-mail I received from People For The American Way:
The filibuster rules are so strict that Sen. Davis must remain standing the entire 13 hours and can’t even lean on a desk. She is reading personal testimonies of women who have undergone abortions to fill up her time.
She is also not allowed a bathroom break while the filibuster is in progress.
Good luck, Senator.
