This could be taken to mean a number of things. The NSSF was obviously there long before the killings. A couple decades. So, are they supposed to uproot and move? Disappear? That’s just a critics fantasy.

Would this be story if the NSSF was 300 miles from there? From conversations I have had with lots of people who shoot, run ranges, reloading supply stores etc., the NSSF is considered a good alternative to the NRA. For donations, training, family outreach etc. Heck I worked for them as a safety officer a few times and I found everyone from NSSF to be very mainstream, professional about safety and a lot less wingnutty than the NRA.

I don’t think this story is really about the NSSF, it’s about who is donating the most. At one time the NRA was a sane organization as well - until it got bought out. You are most likely correct regarding the current NSSF, but it’s something for NSSF members to watch out for - the NRA did not go insane overnight; it took years of drinking from fountains of bile to get there.

re: #2 Randall Gross

Really good point about members watching out for the heart of the group. I’d really hate to see it transform into another NRA. The NSSF does a lot of things we know the shooting ciommunity must have-Safety training, certtified instructors, some infrastructure to support safe sport shooting.
By it’s origin, NSSF is a gun/ammo/accessory manufacturer supported group. It is more company than public oriented.

Casino conglomerate (which one?) from a state where shooting is very popular? Meh. Son of Sun Myung Moon? The son carries the fathers sins/nuttiness via his DNA? He has so many kids I’m not at all sure which one sent the money or his inclinations. Maybe he is a nut, maybe not. I hate to assume much there.

From the article

“It’s unfortunate that the NSSF calls us their home, but it’s a reality,” said Dave Ackert, a spokesman for the Newtown Action Alliance, a local grassroots organization supportive of gun control reform.

Tarnishing the NSSF which has been there 20 years with the very recent killing spree that really could have happened almost anywhere is really unfair. And the new Governor truly deliberately insulted the industry, which includes many companies that have put lots of resources into safety and training.

UPDATE-Found it’s the owner of the Sands, who (in a very republican state) supported Mitt and some GOP congressional candidates. So maybe some concern there, and really the fact that Kahr arms is owned by Moons sun explains the donation pretty easily.
