The ACA was enacted in the version it was because the GOP refused to accept even this basic improvement to the state of access to health insurance. That it still leaves millions without access to health insurance is something that deserves to be fixed going forward, but the GOP isn’t interested in fixing the ACA.

Their entire strategy is defund, delay, and destroy.

They are not interested in fixes.

They are not interested in expanding access to health insurance.

They are looking to deny the millions who would have health insurance under this program that opportunity.

They are looking to roll back the end to lifetime limits on insurance and the preexisting conditions exclusions.

They are not about to fix the ACA.

And with that in mind, there’s no reason for Democrats, let alone President Obama to consider anything offered up by the GOP that would delay the ACA.

Better is not the opposite of perfect. In a perfect world, we’d have access to health insurance for all Americans. But we’re not in a perfect world. We’re in a world where millions have no access to health insurance. The ACA begins to address this with health exchanges modeled on the Massachusetts model that was enacted by Mitt Romney.

That model has worked on bringing down the number of uninsureds in the state to 4%. Most other states are at or above 10%. States like California, Louisiana, Texas, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and New Mexico have 20% or more of their population who are uninsured.

Those are the states that would benefit most from expanding access to health insurance, but it is some of their representatives - at the state and federal level - who are most vehemently opposed to the ACA.

So Francis, you support single payer?

3 Sionainn  Thu, Oct 3, 2013 9:00:15am

So now Francis knows exactly what Obama has and has not read and resorts to childish name calling. Yeah, that’s going to get someone in power to read your drivel.

Oh, and again…hit the “Enter” button two times to make spaces between your paragraphs and the word is “waiver,” not “waver.” That’s been driving me nuts.

re: #2 calochortus

Single payer has been going since the late 60’s. It is Medicare and most doctors like it. Every insurance is single payer and the coverage varies. You’re born the responsible person pays for the insurance, family coverage or single coverage.

Well if that is all you get out of my letters, I hope you don’t go off the deep end. It sounds like you need health insurance. Try to see the President for who he is. He is caught in so many misrepresentations and the media lets him slide. The people that need the help the most, got the least and it is his fault, not the republicans.

I’ve got health insurance, Francis. I’m worried about the other people who don’t have it.

You can’t stand the president. We get it. Perhaps freerepublic would be a much better place for you to post your nonsense.

francis, i’m glad that you support comprehensive medical insurance for all americans, but the fact is that we are lucky to get the partial, sub-optimal fix in the aca

basically, the republican party and other powers that be with a shitload of cash at their disposal have put up a huge resistance to even the imperfect coverage in obamacare

maybe you might have noticed that?

therefore, there is no prospect of ditching obamacare to get a better solution. get real

and, by the way, if you are such a big supporter of better medical insurance for all americans, and think that a medicare-style, single payer approach would be a better solution for the problem aca is trying to solve - since you claim that that’s your position, then, um, could you please do us a favor?

STOP SPOUTING RIGHT WING REPUBLICAN RHETORIC!!!

Be careful. Francis will think you are going off the deep end. LOL.

16 dog philosopher  Thu, Oct 3, 2013 3:31:52pm

by the way, francis, have you ever heard of a ‘concern troll”?

that’s somebody commenting on a blog who claims to be for a particular point of view, but then says they have ‘concerns’ that some things are not right about it

they are pretending to be for one point of view but really working to undermine it

i don’t want to question your honesty, but by claiming to be for really comprehensive medical insurance coverage for americans, a better deal than obamacare - but expending most of your energy calling for it’s repeal

well, whether you intend to or not, you are doing an excellent job of being a concern troll

re: #14 dog philosopher

I support what is right not politically correct. I don’t like doing anything half way especially when it come to medical care. I had the experience of attending Sloan Kettering for medical diagnosis and I saw several children there that hoped the treatment they received would save their life. They did not do anything halfway and they were a great example of hope and perseverance. After experiencing this, I have no room for a bunch of sniveling politicians that can’t get it right or some rich people that made their money off the backs of the poor and middle class. Half way, no way, right way, all the way.

I want it fixed not repealed. I don’t understand why you see it otherwise or willing to settle for something less then the best.

re: #19 francis

I want it fixed not repealed. I don’t understand why you see it otherwise or willing to settle for something less then the best.

well then i’ll lay it out for you as clearly as i can:

1. it barely squeaked through congress even when democrats had majorities in both houses

2. democrats no longer have majorities in both houses

3. powerful forces, not only republicans per se, want to kill any sort of health insurance reform

4. if we allow obamacare to be stopped or delayed, it will kill any type of health insurance reform for the foreseeable future

5. anybody helping to stop or delay obamacare, even if they are calling for improvements, only ends up helping the people who want to kill any improvements in health insurance

6. what i foresee is that if obamacare goes forward as planned, inevitably there will be adjustments and improvements as in any legislation of any complexity. if it is allowed to be killed or delayed, there is no prospect of any improvement in health insurance for the foreseeable future (yes i know i’m repeating myself but take a hint and get the point already)

7. francis, you claim to want to improve health insurance for all americans, but you continue to call for actions that would accomplish the opposite

got it?

21 majii  Thu, Oct 3, 2013 7:01:14pm

francis, you continue to show significant gaps in your knowledge about the Affordable Care Act. The law was designed so that all states would have to expand Medicaid to eligible citizens. It is because of the GOP and their allies that it doesn’t, and it is the reasons why millions of Americans will remain uninsured. When the Supreme Ct decided the case against the ACA, it struck down the mandate requiring all states to expand Medicaid to their eligible citizens. This was not an oversight by President Obama. Therefore, it is not President Obama’s fault that millions will remain uninsured. The original law provided healthcare for the poor who are uninsured.

I take offense with your claim that President Obama hasn’t read the law. How in the hell do you know this? The ACA is President Obama’s idea and creation, and only a far right individual would even think he doesn’t know what is in the law when he helped to create it.

I get it. You don’t like President Obama, and nothing he does will ever meet your approval. Everyday you present us with a “letter” that is filled with the voices you hear in your head, and not based on facts. Your “letters” will never receive full approval at LGFs until they are backed up with facts and reality. I recommend you seek out a far right site where every word you print will be accepted without criticism because it will never happen here at LGFs. You’re wasting your time.

the ACA originated out of the Heritage foundation in 1980 and was used by Romney in mass. Look at the links I sent to Dog and this is the reason the ACA has to be fixed or it will bankrupt the country.

Good, the more of these bloodsucking insurers get out of the business, the faster we’ll move to single payer.

Write to your representative and Senators if you think ACA needs to be fixed. They are the only ones who can do it.

But, no, you won’t do that because you don’t truly care.

Francis, you send Obama letters about things he has no control over. You copy the letters to Obama to send to Reid and Boehner. You don’t write to them directly which is what you should be doing. You also don’t bother contacting your own representative and Senators, likely because they are doing exactly what you want them to do.

Stop with the “concern.” You don’t really give a shit. You want Obama to fold. Fortunately, we have a president who remembers that he is the president for all the citizens of this country and is doing what is best for everyone, not playing partisan politics.

francis, read the daily caller article you linked -

the substance of the article does not match what it claims in the headline

insurance is not “wiped out” - the companies cited will simply not list their plans on the exchange at the competitive rates required there

the cato link does not work
