Dear President Obama,
You sold the democrats and America on the ACA because it would provide coverage for everyone. This is a misrepresentation, it does not provide coverage for everyone. You and Reid are adamant about not discussing the ACA during conference for the CR bill and the house wants to discuss it. They claim there are problems that need to be fixed and they are right.
When the Supreme Court found the individual fine, which you later claimed was a tax, constitutional, they gave the states the right to opt out of the Medicaid portion of the law and many did. This put the poorest in our nation without coverage in the Medicaid program and the ACA. People that made too much income for Medicaid did not make enough money for subsidies or tax credits under the ACA. This left them with no affordable coverage. People that are here on green cards are not eligible for Medicaid for five years, but are eligible for subsidies or tax credits under the ACA depending on their income and family status.
The GOP wants to discuss the medical tax, maybe you should suggest to discuss Americans without coverage first as a starting point and how the states that can’t afford to expand Medicaid can be helped so that all Americans can get health care coverage of some kind. There are numerous problems with the ACA that can be discussed as a starting point for negotiations, so why don’t you pick one and start talking. Tell Reid, I am sure the children that are waiting for cancer treatment would also appreciate conference negotiations.
You and congress have created a real mess for the hard working Americans. The federal employees will probably get back pay as they usually do, but the rest of the Americans who are not working because of the shutdown will not get back pay. They will suffer the adverse effects of this inexcusable performance and behavior by the leadership in this country. Why the American people take sides and support the efforts of the leadership in this country is beyond my understanding. You, Reid and Boehner should all be subject to a recall election, but we can’t do that with the government shutdown.
