Automatic down-ding for linking to Arutz Sheva when the opinion piece is readily available elsewhere.

This ‘story’ pimped incessantly by Dennis Prager, promoting some false victimhood about Israel being called an apartheid state by evil liberals.

But its not false. While no one who holds high office talks like that, there are a good many left-wing activists who lambast Israel for its supposed “apartheid”.

Interesting mix of dings. Yes, yes, I know the refrain: “But it’s true, so it shouldn’t matter if the article comes from INN!” Just so we’re clear on what it is I’m objecting to, here’s a sampling of Google search results:

Kahane site:israelnationalnews.com
JDL site:israelnationalnews.com
Pamela Geller site:israelnationalnews.com
Robert Spencer site:israelnationalnews.com
Walid Shoebat site:israelnationalnews.com

There’s more, but that should be enough to make my point.

I wonder if those who up-dinged this Page & the one (so far) who down-dinged my comment would be equally supportive of me if I posted something true about anti-Muslim bias even if it came from a site that pimped an Islamic version of the sort of trash INN promotes?

No, actually I don’t wonder—there’d be outrage. I’d get slammed mercilessly, and rightfully so. I suppose old double standards are hard to break.

Oh, and about those other sources Buck could’ve chosen for the article? It takes all of about 5 seconds to find them:

“kenneth meshoe” apartheid

Great article irrespective of the source.

FBI Records: The Vault - Files detailing Kahane’s JDL activities 1970-1985
ADL - Backgrounder: The Jewish Defense League
ADL - International Terrorist Symbols Database: Kahane Movement

From the Southern Poverty Law Center’s “Intelligence Files”:

Jewish Defense League

Founded: 1968
Location: New York, NY
Leadership: Shelley Rubin

The Jewish Defense League (JDL) is a radical organization that preaches a violent form of anti-Arab, Jewish nationalism. Its late founder, Rabbi Meir Kahane, claimed that Jews face fierce anti-Semitism domestically and abroad and must protect themselves by any means necessary. The JDL’s position with regard to Israel is denial of any Palestinian claims to land and the calling for the removal of all Arabs from the “Jewish-inherited soil.” The group has orchestrated countless terrorist attacks in the U.S. and abroad, and has engaged in intense harassment of foreign diplomats, Muslims, Jewish scholars and community leaders, and officials. JDL, November 1985:

F.B.I. Says Jewish Defense League May Have Planted Fatal Bombs
By JUDITH CUMMINGS, Special to the New York Times • Published: November 9, 1985

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 8— The Federal Bureau of Investigation said today that it had concluded the Jewish Defense League was ”the possible responsible group” in recent bomb attacks against an Arab leader in California and two East Coast men with purported Nazi ties. Two of the attacks resulted in deaths. The national leader of the Jewish Defense League, Irv Rubin of Los Angeles, said today that his group had nothing to do with the bombings.

The most recent bombing, in Santa Ana, Calif., last month, killed Alex M. Odeh, the 41-year-old leader of an Arab-American organization, and injured seven people. […]

Kach banned, October 1988:

Israel Bans Kahane Party From Election
By JOEL BRINKLEY, Special to the New York Times • Published: October 06, 1988

The Central Election Commission today banned Rabbi Meir Kahane’s party from parliamentary elections next month on the grounds that it is racist and undemocratic.

The commission ruling, on a vote of 28 to 5, was made under a law written three years ago specifically to disqualify Rabbi Kahane’s Kach party from elections. Rabbi Kahane, an American emigre, advocates forcible expulsion of all 2.2 million Arabs from Israel and its occupied territories. […]

The JDL, three months after 9/11 (added emphasis mine):

December 11, 2001

Planned Bombing
Los Angeles, California

(Prevention of one act of Domestic Terrorism)

On December 11, 2001, Irving David Rubin and Earl Leslie Krugel were arrested by the Los Angeles Joint Terrorism Task Force for conspiring to build and place improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at the King Fahd Mosque in Culver City, California, and the local office of Congressman Darrell Issa. Rubin and Krugel were subsequently charged with conspiracy to destroy a building by means of an explosive, as well as possession of a destructive device during and in relation to a crime of violence. Rubin and Krugel were active members of the Jewish Defense League (JDL), a violent extremist Jewish organization. Statements by Rubin and Krugel indicated that they had planned the attack against the mosque to demonstrate the militancy of the JDL. Krugel further indicated that the attack was planned to provide a “wake up call” to the Muslim community. It was determined that Rubin and Krugel had already acquired the necessary components to build an IED, including pipes, fuses, and smokeless powder.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg and doesn’t even include Geller, Spencer, Shoebat and INN’s support for several other distasteful groups & individuals that are probably less widely known.

But, hey, sources don’t matter! After all, why link to the exact same opinion piece at a more mainstream site like The San Francisco Examiner when you can drive traffic to a POS right-wing site like ISS and potentially spread the fear & hatred a little bit farther?

7 CuriousLurker  Thu, Oct 10, 2013 4:46:08pm

I’ve been thinking about this off & on all afternoon, and you know what especially chaps my hide about it? Americans who approve of using sources like INN (yeah, I know Buck is Canadian).

How in the hell are you okay with someone linking to a site that expresses (moral) support for groups like the JDL, when three months after 9/11 they were planning to bomb the offices of an American congressman as well as a mosque?

I don’t like Darrell Issa or the political party he belongs to—in fact, I think he and most of his cohorts are total douches—but he’s still a fellow American and I wouldn’t want anyone to try to harm him. That means I consider any group whose members tried to harm him (or any other innocent American) to be composed of vile, murderous scum, and any individual or organization who approves of, supports, or promotes such groups to be only marginally better.

For me, the same rationale extends to innocent people of any race or creed, regardless of their nationality, though Americans will always be closest to my heart for reasons that should be obvious (unless you’re a raging bigot who thinks it’s impossible for American Muslims to love their countrymen). Clearly, not everyone feels the same way, especially when the subject of Israel comes up. That strikes me as really…peculiar.

Great article irrespective of the source.

I have no respect for that attitude. Source matters. Particularly when the same stuff is available from a better source.

And the original poster has a significant history of posting and supporting items from dubious sources.

I fully respect the attitude of disliking bad sources, but you’ll have to pardon me for not downdinging it, because this truth has been one that has been so solidly ignored in general. The average person still has not gotten the message, so I have to think that the more people who say it, the better chance it has of permeating.

If we automatically downding for source, I’m going to have to be a lot busier…

I respect your right to disagree, but I’m going to continue to hammer anyone who uses bad sources as I’d no sooner use a link from INN than I would from a site site that supported anti-Semitism and/or jihadi terror groups that had committed terrorist acts on American soil, regardless of how true or important I felt the story to be. I would feel I’d just be contributing to the already significant mutual hatred & distrust that exists, but that’s just me.

And just to highlight once again: This article was available from at least one mainstream source, so why choose INN? I didn’t read it because of the source Buck used, and I won’t read it nor will I tweet it or recommend it to anyone—that’s my prerogative, just as up-dinging it is yours.
