The more important quote from this “cancellation” letter is this one: “If we do not hear from you by December 15, 2013, we will enroll you in the Option I plan shown in this letter.” In other words, the recipient will by default remain covered. Which is basically the opposite of being a soon-to-be-former policy holder. Yes, the terms and premiums are being changed, just like insurance companies do every year… without having to justify those changes in any way, I might add, prior to the Affordable Care Act.

Dim Jim’s followers on Twitter, such as Prudence @dennygirltwo, have parroted this nonsense, too. The usual suspects now take it as gospel.

Not to mention, if you’ve been in the individual market for any length of time you’ve gotten one of these letters at some point. The difference is that now they’re automatically enrolling you in another plan. Back in the day you were invited to reapply and if you were healthy they’d take you, if not, so sorry but preexisting condition, you know…

(Of course it is possible that folks with preexisting conditions in this current situation aren’t being automatically re-enrolled in a new plan. But they’ll be able to get insurance by applying for it, unlike the good old days.)

Not for me. Blue Shield of CA sent me a letter and brochure, which prominently displayed something like “You don’t have to do anything. You’re already covered” on every page.

Considering the bastards rejected me when I first applied years ago because of preexisting conditions, I take that as a “please don’t leave” plea.

Dim Jim is the King of the Internet Dumbs, and Prudence is his Queen.
