Agreed. Especially with that fifth shot down, it’s obvious these are just rats with funny tails. Hang them all and let god sort them out!

I had a friend who had a Weber kettle grill under one tree in his backyard. The squirrels were in that tree and as they munched on their walnuts, would drop pieces that would fall down and plink off the grill cover and make a pretty loud sound. After a few days he grew sick of them doing it, so he moved the grill so that it was away from their favorite tree. He moved it so that it was under a small tree just off the edge of his patio.

So, guess what happened next.

Yep, the squirrels relocated when it was dinner time. Now they sat in the small tree so they could toss their shells down on the grill and get their fun.

My friend was not amused. I thought it funny!

I’ve got a few around my neighborhood and once in a while there will be little pieces of shell right in the middle of my front porch stairs right at the landing. I swear the little buggers have pretty good brains and enjoy messing with humans.

I have lots of squirrely stories. Here’s one.
I had a huge pin oak (150’) in my front yard since I bought my house. Some years the acorns were so deep you could skate on them. The blue jays would come in droves to silently (!) eat to their fill for weeks. Along with a drey or two in the tree was an increasing population of squirrels. They would plug acorns into the ground for two blocks in every direction. I had one of them fall down my chimney into my fireplace. What fun getting him out. Ever hear a pissed off squirrel? Really pissed off? After I lost my job of 27 years, I made it a point to sit out front and wait for daughter to walk from the bus daily. There was 5 squirrels……next……Oh look. 7 squirrels. Oh look at them play. Chase each other to my roof and back down. Do laps on the tree. It went on for a few weeks until there was 11 or 12 running around close to me every day. They got used to me and paid me no mind. They are crazy little sobs. Eat your shoelaces if you let them. Then one day I walked out and sat down and looked to my left, and on top of one of my garden timbers a squirrel was banging booty doggy style looking right at me. Three feet away. Never stopped. Never missed a stroke. I jumped up and hollered “ENOUGH!!!!!” They scattered and some hung in the tree scolding me. I made a point to not let them get as comfortable after that. The tree had to be taken down as it was a threat to my house a few years later. Do I miss it? Sometimes. But now I have bunny nests all over the place. Bunny here, bunny there, bunny, bunny everywhere, Still plenty of squirrels here, just not congregated in my front yard.

Thou shalt not kill.

Unless it’s for the grill.
