Thanks for posting this. I gather that things may be coming to a head in Turkey, but hadn’t heard much lately.

My main cause for concern is Erdogan’s old statement that Democracy is like a train. We shall get out when we arrive at the station we want. Another concern is that Turkey’s fundamentalist rural voters may turn the country back from modernity—-and search for scapegoats when the chickens come home to roost.

Good luck to the Turkish people.

Fundamentalism is more prevalent in rural areas of Turkey than in the United States. The US government is also, despite all the DERP, still more responsive and far more honest than Erdogan’s government. That helps keep desire of radical change down. Turkey’s risk of successful fundamentalist revolt is a good deal higher than our own.
