So, I imagine by tomorrow, Fox News will have declared this scandal silly and over, and we’ll be moving on to another round of Benghazi Bossonova Wit You.

They can try but it won’t work. Chris Christie made a lot of enemies, and now that he’s been weakened the knives are coming out.

The Fox anchors will be busy engaging in character assassination of the mayor. Whenever a democrat exposes illegal shenanigans from the GOP…the reflex is to ALWAYS try to destroy the public perception of the accuser.

When federal prosecutors want to talk to someone on a Sunday, it should sound a really loud alarm bell for the people being investigated.

A nonviolent crime has been alleged in the administration of a popular Presidential contender from the party that does not control the federal executive branch. When federal prosecutors want to talk to somebody on a Sunday regarding that allegation, which was made in the news media rather than submitted to them, yes, it should ring alarm bells—-and not only for the people being investigated.

Are you seriously trying to imply that the whole thing is solely driven by politics - that it’s just “let’s stop the other party from having a chance at the presidency?”

So apparently LGF reader jvic is actually Joe Scarborough in disguise.

@jvic - who should these alarm bells be ringing for, and what should these alarm bells signify to them?

No. The whole thing might be legitimate; politics might be a driver; ambitious prosecutors might be looking for high-profile scalps; or some combination thereof.

No.

If the accusations are validated, the alarm bells should be ringing for Christie, of course.

However, for example: Given the Ted Stevens affair, given the rape accusations against Bill Clinton released iirc just as the Senate was voting on his impeachment, alarm bells should be ringing about abuse of the prosecutorial process.

2. My own attitude, based on scant evidence and subject to change: The Hoboken thing may be valid, but that’s how things are done in New Jersey and Christie fits right in. Some people who are advancing the story know that full well, and they know that Christie polls well against Hillary. I am no fan of Hillary; I am no fan of Christie; I am no fan of prosecutorial abuse.

Meh, I can’t see why that would be cause for concern in itself. Those prosecutors won’t exactly be working on a weekend for the first time in their careers, and a politician in a position such as mayor Zimmer’s probably doesn’t exactly hold the sabbath all that sacrosanct either.

Furthermore, requesting to talk to someone with a busy schedule on a sunday often means less stress for them (and more time to go into the issues at hand) than if you’d have to squeeze into the mon-fri schedule.

Really, I agree they won’t do this unless they smell blood in the water but really? Prosecutorial misconduct for working a bit of overtime? Are prosecutors’ offices over yonder really that well-staffed that that’s even an exception?
