Thanks. Kind of ya.

Not my first Page on Gibson and the Lacey act. I think Gibson acted in good faith and the government got overzealous. This is a highly problematic act for any but the largest companies to navigate well enough for business purposes.

Did the Feds ever explain why they seized the first shipment - the one they wound up giving back to Gibson after holding it for four years?

IIRC they still maintain they were right to act as they did

As a Nashvillian who’s had family members (including my dad) and friends that have worked for Gibson at one time or another over the years, it’s not surprising that Juszkiewicz decided to go this route and make “special edition” instruments out of the seized and returned wood (with a real healthy markup, I’m sure); he’s a Tea Party darling.

The Daily Beast: How Gibson Guitar Went Tea Party

I don’t like the Tea party or him throwing in with them but I find his anger quite justifiable.

Juszkiewicz said he thinks the government believes that some of the wood Gibson is using to manufacture the company’s guitars is illegal.

But everything is sealed,” he said. “They won’t tell us anything.”

WTF is that?

Not to excuse the government agencies involved here (US Fish & Wildlife Service, Customs, etc.), but bureaucracy is a bitch sometimes, especially when multiple agencies are involved

I’d rather have them over zealous where endangered resources are concerned.

He proved his case & got his wood back. Why the whining? Oh, yeah, he’s supposed to be allowed to destroy the world for the sake of profit!

How dare that Ebil Gub’ment try to enforce teh Law!!!

At least I know this now so that if I ever do buy an electric it will definitely be a Fender.
