Russ Campbell’s Blog: Quebec Election 2014: A Triumph for Common Sense
The QueÂbec LibÂeral Party won a reÂsoundÂing vicÂtory last night, reÂturnÂing to ofÂfice with a maÂjorÂity of 70 seats (41.51%) only 19 months afÂter losÂing to the Parti QuĂ©bĂ©cois (30 seats, 25.37%).
The CoaliÂtion Avenir QuĂ©bec (CAQ), a party that self-deÂscribes as beÂing conÂserÂvÂaÂtive on ecoÂnomic isÂsues and libÂeral on soÂcial ones, garÂnered an imÂpresÂsive 22 seats and 23.07 per cent of the popÂuÂlar vote. While the QuĂ©bec SolÂidaire (QS), a hard-left sovÂerÂeignÂtist party, chewed away enough PQ supÂport to win 3 seats and 7.63 per cent of the vote.
