Jenkins later went on to propose a bill that would pay women in Congress 70% of what men make —- JUST KIDDING!

‘Bizarre,’ ‘Condescending’ to Women’

That’s a pretty good description of Republicans.

How in the hell is it condescending to support equal pay for women? What I don’t understand is how the Republicans get any woman to vote for them — except Palin and Bachman.

Good move on President Obama’s part. Another issue for the Democrats to run on in 2014 and 2016. Forcing the Republicans to defend their antagonism to equal pay is a good move.

Know what the difference is between male Republican pols and female Republican pols?

Me neither.

“Some folks don’t understand that women have become an extremely valuable part of the workforce today on their own merit, not because the government mandated it.”

bwahahahaha [gasp, inhale] hahahahahahah.

wow, what a comedienne. I have to assume she followed with a shot at equal opportunity claiming it was never needed either.

Yeah I guess Eisenhower and Ford were being condescending and unfair when they advocated this position when the current GOP leadership was in diapers. This kind of crap is why they will never win women over though.

Quote; “Some folks don’t understand that women have become an extremely valuable part of the workforce today on their own merit, not because the government mandated it.” End stupidity…
And they still are not paid as much as a man doing the same job. So what’s so hard to figure out? Bizarre? Condescending? Why yes Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R-Kan.). That sums up you and your party in a nutshell. Oh and nuts, too. I have a chair too.

Deny, Attack and Reverse Victim and Offender (DARVO).

This is well known as a common pattern of behavior for abusers.

The OP here is also a good example of DARVO. It’s really pitiful that a major US political party has reduced its rhetoric to the same level as the perp in an abusive relationship.

Well, these guys are the party of doing nothing. And lately it seems they even are able to make big comments that say nothing. Really, what did she say other than some women she knows don’t like this unladylike talk, there are some old laws and the democrats are meanies? Nothing about anything to fix anything about anything.

Even her “We strongly support equal pay for equal work” statement veers off into nothingness when she starts talking about discrimination laws on the books that obviously haven’t worked. So, no plans, no fix, just like health care.

re: #5 Patricia Kayden

It is important to know what the premise of each side is, and where the kernel of truth within it resides.

It’s supposedly condescending because women don’t need the government to help them out. They can make it on their own.
I rate this Partly True. Women are approaching pay equity when they hold identical jobs with men. This allows conservatives to argue that it’s a matter of women’s choices and preferences.
The problems arise when women are steered to lower paying jobs, aren’t hired for the ‘traditionally male’ jobs, or aren’t even aware of some career paths that might be a good choice for them.

I don’t have current stats, but a few decades ago jobs held primarily by women received lower compensation than those held primarily by men, no matter where you were in the world. The example I recall was that Soviet doctors, who were primarily female, were not paid particularly well, whereas in the West, doctors were primarily male and had higher than average incomes.
