Sad, but typical, and the idea of having parallel group of Israeli students make a trip to a Palestinian refugee camp is not a good note to strike, since Israel’s actions are in no way comparable to Nazi Germany.

Honestly, while Professor Dajani’s idea was noble, it was in my opinion doomed from the start. There are simply too many fanatics on the Palestinian side who will react violently to one of their own advocating any attempt at mutual understanding. Trips like this will be in vain until the power of the fanatics is broken,

It was pretty clear, to me at least, that the point of the parallel groups was not to imply that Israel is comparable to Nazi Germany, but rather for each group to feel the other’s humanity. This conflict is not completely one-sided—if it was, it wouldn’t be so intractable or have lasted as long as it has.

I commend the groups, the germans, and the youth for this.

The holocaust is always - and i mean always - a learning event. It is also a humanizing event. It is also history.

A really upsetting part of our history through, but one that we must as they say “never forget.”
