Norton Antivirus was bad. I stopped using it roughly a decade ago. Past versions were notorious for blindly deleting any infected file, even critical system files. I ain’t sad to see them give up the moment they a draw a less than full bucket from the well. There are still plenty of good alternatives. (for now)

But yeah, the part about hackers adapting to a changing world is bad news. Then again, is that really news?

I smell a setup. The endgame he speaks of is money. So all you little fish can just rough it out, not enough money to make us dip our beak. Norton is one of many and if their model of “protection” is any indication of net worth, it will not be missed.

There’s a book called “The Virus Creation Labs” which is pretty dated, but it does give a very interesting look into the world of the virus/antivirus arms race of the early 90s. The bit about the Michelangelo virus is a good read. You can read the whole thing on line.
