President Obama: Ebola Is Serious but ‘We Can’t Give in to Hysteria’
Facing criticism for a slow and chaotic response to public worries about the deadly disease, Obama is using his weekly radio address to try to assure Americans once more that their odds of contracting the Ebola virus are rare. It is not transmitted through the air but can be caught through direct contact with the bodily fluids of somebody already showing symptoms.
“This is a serious disease, but we can’t give in to hysteria or fear — because that only makes it harder to get people the accurate information they need,” Obama said. “We have to be guided by the science. We have to remember the basic facts.”
