And when you’re done contemplating this, go check out the rise of “concierge” medicine. Just do a search on MDVIP.

Like your doctor? Like your doctor enough to pay $1800 a year just to be able to remain a patient? Oh, you’ll just find another doctor? Not in my area, because few of them are accepting new patients.

Speaking as someone whose household income has varied widely over the years, progressive tax rates are a wonderful thing. We’ve paid more taxes when we could afford to, less when we couldn’t.

I can’t imagine how taxing consumption will increase said consumption, which last I looked was a pretty hefty percentage of our economy. Never mind the unfairness of making the poor pay a higher percentage of their income on taxes than the rich.

It isn’t that the idea failed. It’s that the idea wasn’t properly implemented.

One day we’ll get it right. Then life will be perfect and wonderful forever.

Well except for the poor but those sinners don’t count.
