Our mistakes as a nation are part of our history just as much as our successes. Nice going Oklahoma. Kids don’t learn a damn thing about history if history is just America! Fuck Yeah!

And yet they will allow secessionist and racist people to do their best to influence curriculum? Then throw in the religious Fanatics who wish this nation to hold a holy book as law and not the Constitution? Sounds fair to me. Can’t admit to mistakes or acts that put Perfect America under a bad light. Yes. The day that wall ever comes down between church and state is the day both the Republic and Democracy dies.

Humans prefer mythology to history so this doesn’t surprise me at all.

I would love for my daughters to take an AP History class. It sounds awesome!

“the church and God himself has been under assault, marginalized, and diminished by the progressives and secularists.”
Has they now?

I suppose this yokel is opposed to advanced placement for grammar as well.

AP USH was by far the best course I took in high school. I learned to think critically, to write a decent essay, and to appreciate how hard it is to explain how things happened. I presume AP Euro would be much the same. These knuckledraggers don’t want young people to think critically or to understand that there is no one single explanation for how and why things happened in the past, but many, often contradictory explanations to weigh. They want kids to be sheep.

Thing is, even in OK I doubt students are going to put up with this nonsense. Students elsewhere staged a walkout for several days, joined by their teachers and supported by their parents. I hoping the OK students can do do the same thing.

Besides, I suspect singling out one course for financial penalties probably violates the state constitution.

I fail to see the correlation between the “Christian perspective” and “American exceptionalism”. Is it in the Bible? In our Constitution? And when did the definition of “exceptionalism” become synonymous with “above reproach”?

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Oklahoma, joining Kansas and much of the South as a worldwide laughingstock.

re: #7 CuriousLurker

many Evangelicals point to “prophesy” in the Bible to stake their claim. They point to individual verses and even single words to cherry pick and cobble together a mythology that makes “America, Fuck Yeah!” a religious mantra.
