Six police officers couldn’t find a way subdue a single homeless man without killing him?

Sounds like those cops need additional training on dealing with the severely mentally ill.

There is a lot of scared cops it seems. If you are that frightened of a 12 year old kid, a 98 year old woman a bum, a man in a wheelchair or a fucking service dog you are out of control and a frightened thug who should be stripped of your shield and never armed again in any way shape or form. Service? To whom? Thugs with shields who answer to no one.

This is why I feel most officers should be required to either turn in their firearms or keep them locked in a sealed container in the squad car. 99% of the time, they do not need lethal force - let them carry tasers and OC spray instead. If there is a situation where lethal force is appropriate - the car jacking incident recently - let there be specific forces that can be deployed or that there is a specific order authorizing the officers to break the seal on the weapons container.

This will not solve every police problem - they can cripple you for life in ten seconds with a billy club - but it will go a long way to preventing these on the street executions by under trained and too easily frightened asshats. And, frankly, if being unable to murder on a whim makes some of them leave law enforcement, law enforcement will be all the better for them being gone.

I worked in a psychiatric facility where staff dealing with patients were trained to take down people without using weapons. They even held courses for the police department.

We had a huge guy admitted one time and he was psychotic and having ‘roid rage. He tore out the wall air conditioner unit in his room. The staff handily took him down without injury to him or any personnel. It can be done.

My “favorite” part of this story is when a police officer dropped his baton to begin punching the man, knocking him over so that he could then begin grappling with him…

I am with everyone else. I just can’t accept that this had to be resolved with the use of deadly force.
