Armed W.Va. Teen Holds Students, Teacher Hostage at School
A West Virginia high school narrowly avoided tragedy when a tense two-hour hostage situation ended with an armed 14-year-old boy’s surrender.
A teacher and 29 students were held against their will inside of a second-floor classroom at Philip Barbour High School in Philippi leading to 911 calls around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, state police said.
“Omg I hear running on the 2nd floor…im freaking out,” one claimed student, @_mj_morris, tweeted amid a lockdown that led to students being evacuated to a football field.
Hostage negotiators called to the scene were able to convince the boy, who was armed with a pistol, to release his hostages unharmed, Lt. Michael Baylous said.
