Am I to believe for one second that anti-abortion activists give a damn about patient privacy beyond how they can use it as an excuse to attack ob/gyn clinics? That they’ll never dox anyone whose info they just stole?

I hope this clinic, and others who’s employees watch the news, are getting cross-cutting shredders and dumpster padlocks as I type this.

Well hey now; Operation Rescue actually proves some misconduct. Didn’t think we’d see the day.

Seriously, though: discarded medical records ought to be shredded when they go in any waste receptacle. I know the good folks at these clinics are under plenty of pressure already but this sort of lax handling of very sensitive personal information is inexcusable.

Whether or not the OR people were trespassing to grab these docs from a dumpster doesn’t really matter; these things shouldn’t go off with some garbage collection company unshredded either, for a start.

And given the level of controversy abortion clinics attract I’m surprised they’re apparently so lax in handling such information.

Cheryl Sullenger is an extremely dangerous domestic terrorist. It’s also very likely that she is an accessory to murder, in the assassination of Dr. George Tiller.

Very true, yet minor compared to the fictitious charges they have made against the Planned Parenthood. I’d bet it’s a situation in which a new employee is not trained or a patient discarded their own records in a waiting room trash can (yes, people do such things —especially young people).

I’ve worked in enough offices to know that shredding is a regular and routine procedure. This is an isolated incident they will use to paint all clinics as BAD, BAD BAD.

This was more than just some stuff patients themselves threw out (and seriously - do they hand that stuff out in a way that would lend itself to throwing in the trash in US medical settings? Around here it’s either something you really, really need to keep, or they won’t hand it to you in the first place. (Huh, never figured this just might be one reason for that.)

And sorry, but new/young/untrained employee is NOT an excuse in these settings. Anyone dealing with sensitive personal information (and few things are more sensitive than medical records, let alone in a clinic which performs abortions) should damn well be trained to be more careful. This is precisely the sort of thing that should not happen even as an isolated incident.

Besides, it’s not just such incidents. Take for example that clinic where they just had some third party garbage collection agency take out unshredded records. For that to even come close to happening in a medical setting is absolutely horrible. Anyone with the first clue wrt handling sensitive information will have garbage collection practices right up on the whiteboard within the first five or so minutes. This is not an incident, this is a problem of office culture within at least that clinic.

And frankly if you consider anti-abortion activists even half the threat they might just be this should concern you a lot more than it seems to. Protecting patient privacy really ought to outweigh lock-step defence of blue team.

So you would defund all Planned Parenthood clinic because of one incident of bad record handling?

What the fuck?!? How do you consider that an even remotely justifiable reading of what I posted?

Seriously, screw you. _This_ _needs_ _fixing_. Nobody mentions defunding here except for you.
It’s seriously fucked up to decide that “oh, it’s just an incident” when clearly the article shows it is not (again as I said, systematically having unshredded documents removed by an external garbage collection company rather than a secure document destruction service is _insane_ in a medical setting, for one) just because you someone’s ‘on your team’ or however you justify this to yourself.

And again, screw you for what you’re insinuating.

Insinuating? Really? Have you been paying attention to current events. These people don’t give a damn about the patients —only the fetus. They are trying to deny ME and other women our rights.

It’s all about defunding Planned Parenthood. It’s about criminalizing any women who dares to think she is human.
