If this keeps up Ms. Kelly is going to be excommunicated from the faith and end up looking for a new job.

This country has been on AM Radio Virus for years. Now the blog world has erupted with more outlets of idiocy and ideology. I don’t see this getting better any time soon.

The challenge for Fox, do they represent the business wing or the religious wing? I think the answer is the business wing.

“It’s going to push people to private school and homeschooling!” I thought this was on the right wing dream agenda.

So yeah, maybe the majority of people in red states are uncomfortable with trans-gendered people using the bathroom of their choice, but the vision of the founding fathers was to protect the rights of outnumbered citizens from mob rule by recognizing basic unalienable rights in the Bill of Rights.

That said, although there is a risk of “othering” already at risk people by suggesting that accommodation can be made for the trans community by providing single use restrooms for seventh through twelfth grades, that may be the most practical temporary way to provide comfort for everyone involved until our society catches up to the reality of the existence and innocuousness of the trans community. (Elementary school trans students should unequivocally be allowed access to the restrooms of their choice!!!) Older trans students could be encouraged to understand that there is nothing wrong with them, but that the understanding of trans issues is new for our society and that this is a compromise. Sure, it is imperfect, but the serious harm done to many more people through the loss of funding to education is unacceptable and far worse than the “ordeal” of using a private bathroom for a handful of middle school and high school students. We should not let perfection be the enemy of the good.

All minorities have made progress in rights through incremental changes and it seems unreasonable to expect this transition to be any different. While I support the ultimate fulfillment of trans rights, I believe that they will ultimately gain those rights sooner if we accept the pragmatic reality of gradual fulfillment. Women got the right to vote almost a century ago and we are still fighting for equality———if we had bundled together all the rights (equal pay and so on) women wanted back then, we would probably not even have gotten the vote. Gay rights have surged forward, but with several obvious steps———decriminalization, “don’t ask, don’t tell”, housing rights, employment rights, and finally, full rights for gay marriage!

So let’s build extra private restrooms at public middle and high schools. (It’s less divisive and expensive for tax payers than scores of lawsuits.) In ten years they can be re-purposed for the handful of retrograde students who are fearful of trans-gendered folk.
