Damn.
They’re located within walking distance of my house. That was one of the places my kid might’ve applied to, if he gets the engineering degree he’s aiming for.

Musk and SpaceX have been the targets of a virulent and dishonest propaganda campaign waged by the legacy profiteers and their allied politicians and (mostly) right wing media. Among other things, they claim that he is subsidizing his costs out of his own pocket. This is impossible if you look at the figures and so what if he did? The important point is that he isn’t stealing out of MY pocket.
He should have derailed the legacy gang’s 50 year gravy train completely by now but Congress and the Pentagon have failed to see it.

Incidentally, I think Elon Musk intends to go to Mars, himself, and I will live to see it.

The upcoming Falcon 9 Heavy will be the most powerful rocket built anywhere in the world since the Saturn V. Its orbital payload will be a whopping 120,000 lbs, still only about half the Saturn V’s. Nevertheless, with a direct ascent flight profile, just two astronauts, and a cryogenic upper stage for the outbound insertion, it might well be able to take humans back to the Moon, and do so for a small fraction of the original program’s cost. The first steps onto the surface should be accompanied by the words , “Eat my Moon dust, Boeing and Lockheed.”

Musk could offset part of the cost of a Moon shot by having an army of lawyers on standby to sue the shit out of every conspiraliar, tinhorn, and keyboard kommando who claims he faked it. Unlike NASA, Musk is a private citizen and he can recover for defamation.
