Farewell Panoramio, RIP Picasa, Bye Bump, Glass Appears Invisible
Google is shedding interesting features and not really replacing them well at least from this photographer/Google user standpoint. When millions of people assemble even a humble body of work, it leaves a bad taste to not have a good lateral option. Google + has no image management, gotta use their cloud for that. okay, for b/u but now my best image management might be Adobe Bridge or some similar app. That’s just me. But with G-Earth Panaramio was really helpful to me as a tourist, traveler or photographer. Good crowd sourced content. Now going away like a worn out drive.
Despite Panoramio having millions of users and a vast treasure trove of photos, Google has apparently decided that keeping the service alive isn’t worth the cost. After November 4th, everything will switch over to being read-only for a year to give users time to access and download their photo archives. After November 2017, Panoramio photos will be copied to the Google Album Archive.
