Holy crap! I never would’ve guessed, though I probably shouldn’t feel so shocked since the justification is pretty much the same as elsewhere.

FGM is all about males, and unfortunately some females, exercising what they believe to be their right to control women’s bodies. I surmise that if many Christians in America were asked what they think about FGM, they’d say they’re appalled by the practice, but I see little difference between FGM and some Christians’ other attempts to control what we can and cannot do with our own bodies. FGM is a brutal practice but so is telling a woman she can’t abort a child with severe birth defects which would make the child’s life hell, telling her she has to subject herself to an ultrasound before she can get an abortion, or telling her that she has no right of access to certain kinds of birth control. It has been my observation that way too many females have little/no concern about other women——until the same things happen to them. This has to stop. The question is how do we get them to develop compassion for other women, women who are going through things they have no idea about, things that do not touch their own lives in any way? I appreciate what you’re trying to do in informing others about FGM and the other ways many in our society are codifying their anti-women agendas. A politician the other day said that women are “hosts” for pregnancies. Why women in his state aren’t lined up outside his office door is beyond my ability to comprehend. Is it because he’s a RW politician? because he’s a white male? because he identifies as a Christian? None of these excuses what came out of his mouth, a complete degradation of women and a disregard for their intelligence in having the ability to make decisions about their own bodies. Too many males of this sort seem to forget that their moms are women, women who raised them to adulthood to only have them become one of their worst enemies.
