NBC News’ Richard Engel’s segment on how the American right has come to view Russia and Putin favorably is excellent and worth your time.

Wingnuts have been expressing admiration for Putin for a few years now, even saying things like, “sure he’s a dictator, but he’s a real leader, unlike Obama,” and I just shake my head.

And I worry, because these are Trump’s most fervent supporters, who will only be happy to hand over democratic freedoms if it will keep the libtards/muslims/illegals/etc etc etc in line.

Our right wing is at war with the world. Our right wing comprises about 2% of the world’s population and considers itself superior to 98% of most of the rest of the world. Everyone else are either godless heathens, the “wrong sort” of Christians, “Libtards”,
Not “white”, or Socialist.

Putin represents the closest person they can identify with- White in appearance, claims of “Christian”’ heritage, happy to violently crush the rights of gays, liberal opposition, intellectuals, and the arts.

Putin has completely pulled the wool over US Conservative’s eyes in a superior Con job where even the slightest bit of actual investigation deeper into actual belief system and policies blows this alliance”s religious and political similarities out of the water. Putin and our right wing both adhere to mutually exclusive tenets that some day will come into direct conflict. This is no accident, as pretty much every radical right wing ideology is at some point mututally exclusive with other nations’ radicals. As a result, this Putin/US right wing love affair is temporary- should it develop further Putin will be in the driver’s seat, Republican elite and friends richer, and our country poorer.

So, just like the American Right before WWII the current American Right feels closer to the authoritarians that regard the US as an enemy than to their own country.

So I’ll use one of their favourite lines on them, “If you don’t like it here, move to Russia.”
