I’ll bet there’d be more than a handful of men and women who’d only be too happy to take on the Evil Somali Muslims with just a few letters of marque these days.

pirates vs privateers the latter worked for one side when countries like the british and french were at war. pirates only worked or themseleves.

now it sometimes got a little more complex as some pirates acted like they were privateers when the law was looking and pirates when they weren’t.
