I think any police administration must put absolute compliance with orders aside when a better and especially much more humane solution was applied. Let’s reward compassion over compliance.

I can see how you feel that way, but in this case I cannot concur. If the order was to wrongly use deadly force against a person, I’d agree entirely, but a wild animal is a different case. In such a case, given that the lower-ranked man would be covered by his superior ‘s having given the order if that order produced blowback, his duty is to obey said order. Ensuring the chain of command must come before compassion for an animal.

Again, if the order to use force concerned a human being it would be different.
