Before “Warcraft” were variations of these:

They were available in varying levels of complexity from the late ’60s on. A British company (Redifon) supplied most of the 3rd world militaries. The Spanish Navy had the most advance example (circa 72) at their academy just outside of Madrid.

Mid ’70s there was a mind blowing state-of-the-art classified U.S. military version on the 2nd floor of a nondescript building in downtown La Jolla, not far from Mitt’s present elevator garage home. Everyone coming and going wore civvies. Ho-hum stuff by todays standards.
