It’s all about the suspension of belief, and Peter Jackson is about as subtle as a ton of bricks. Not that that’s a bad thing, but I think it works against him here.

Something like John Huston’s Moby Dick would never work today, with its seemingly ever changing palette of colors. It’s against everything modern technology stands for.
