Please see my reply to gdf.

There are so many assumptions (and presumptions) going on with these “polls” that I have pretty much dismissed them as being predictors.

They are important in rallying the troops in a way that parallels the cheerleaders at football games. Generally speaking, the masses tend to go for bigger boobs on their cheerleaders.

I’m just wondering how it is possible for the math to work out like that. How the poll can have 36% indies and 32% for each Dems and Repubs, yet wind up with MOE’s like that for questions that break down by party.

It’s been a while since I’ve taken my statistics classes, so I could definitely be missing something here. But if there are more independents than Republicans in the poll……shouldn’t the MOE be lower for independents than Republicans? What am I missing?
