re: #5 Shiplord Kirel
These people are not just dangerously crazy, they are dangerously over-confident:
I met a gun nut a while back who was seriously convinced that a .50 Barrett rifle (like the one he is saving for) could take out a Bradley fighting vehicle, knock it over on its side in fact. He did concede that it wouldn’t penetrate tank armor, but was sure he could cut the tracks. Good thing this never occurred to the Iraqi army.
They just don’t put enough emphasis on basic Physics in the schools anymore. A rifle that would flip a Bradley would likely shear a person’s shoulder and firing arm clean off.
The Barrett would be nice to have, but impractical for an insurgency. All .50 BMG ammo is hideously expensive, heavy, loud, and the good rounds (armor penetrating pyrophoric) are highly restricted. Chasing high caliber is a fools errand. A takedown lever action .22 like the Marlin 39-A would actually make a better choice for an insurgency, because no ragtag militia is going to outrange or outgun the military.
